A clear, photo-ready home starts with a simple plan. Work through the rooms below, then use the printable checklist for your final walk-through.

Start with the rooms buyers see.
Kitchen
- Clear countertops: put away small appliances, mail, dish racks and sponges.
- Remove everything from the front of the refrigerator.
- Clean and shine surfaces, especially stainless steel.
- Move trash cans out of view or into cabinets.
- Add a simple centerpiece, such as a bowl of fruit or fresh flowers.
Bathrooms
- Remove personal toiletries from counters and showers.
- Put out fresh, matching towels; white or neutral colors work well.
- Close toilet lids and remove bath mats, trash cans and plungers.
- Clean mirrors and glass until streak-free.
- Keep decorative touches simple, such as a small plant or soap dispenser.
Living spaces & bedrooms
- Clear remotes, chargers and personal items from surfaces.
- Arrange pillows and throws neatly and make beds with clean, wrinkle-free bedding.
- Put away personal photos and children’s artwork.
- Open blinds and curtains and turn on lamps and overhead lights.

Finish the details, inside and out.
Curb appeal
- Mow the lawn, trim hedges and remove weeds.
- Clear walkways and the driveway of debris, toys and vehicles.
- Hide trash cans, recycling bins and garden hoses.
- Clean the front door and tidy the entry.
- Sweep porches, patios and decks; arrange outdoor furniture if available.
Lighting & decluttering
- Replace burned-out bulbs and avoid mixing warm and cool bulbs.
- Turn on every light before the photographer arrives.
- Open blinds, shades and curtains.
- Turn off ceiling fans, TVs and computer screens.
- Put away shoes, coats and bags at entryways.
- Hide pet bowls, beds, litter boxes and toys.
- Remove refrigerator magnets, calendars and sticky notes.
- Tuck away visible cords, remove out-of-season decorations and tidy the garage.
03 · Day of the shoot
One last walk-through.
Aim to finish preparation at least 30 minutes before your scheduled photography time.
- Move vehicles away from the driveway and the front of the home.
- Secure pets in carriers or arrange for them to be off-site.
- Take out trash and recycling.
- Check every room, closet and surface one last time.
- Coordinate access with your agent and photographer, including closets and the garage.
- Set the thermostat to a comfortable temperature and make the garage opener accessible if needed.
- Plan to step out if possible so the photographer has room to work.
When in doubt, less is more. Keep surfaces clear and let your home’s rooms and features be the focus.
